Earth Day 2009
Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, is Earth Day, and in honor of this special day, Walt Disney Studios is releasing a new documentary called Earth. The film is the first feature-length nature documentary from Disney’s new production banner, Disneynature. The film is from British producer/director Alastair Fothergill, whose credits include "Planet Earth" series (BBC and The Discovery Channel) and The Blue Planet. The film is narrated by renowned actor James Earl Jones, as it follows the stories of three animal families as they travel the world.
Disney bosses will plant 500,000 trees on Earth Day, after film fans flocked to buy tickets for the company's new documentary. The executives agreed to plant a tree for every ticket bought during the film's first week. Disney boss Mark Zoradi says, "With half a million new trees committed so far, Disneynature's first film is already making an impact on the world - and Earth hasn't even opened yet. We're so pleased that moviegoers have embraced this film and our tree-planting initiative to this degree and we expect the numbers to keep climbing."
